Cloudwater Wayfinder
We are a small company that brings together the energies, skills, and life experiences of our whole team in an effort to make great beer experiences, but also to live rich and rewarding lives. However, our work takes place in a society within which meaningful change work feels slow, and often resisted. In our short time in business, we have achieved more than we ever thought possible in beer, and we have gained trust and support and made friendships we cherish dearly. We feel it is time to take our work to a deeper and more meaningful level.
Our combined privileges and efforts have built a solid platform, but our vision for change and progress is limited. Though we are already taking actions on a number of fronts, we feel we are too slow to learn from others, and too slow to form ideas of how best to engage in change work.
Craft beer has developed in a narrow image of its consumerbase – largely white, cisgender, heterosexual, and male. We believe that the future of craft beer will be shaped by new generations of leaders and dreamers, and with a focus on craft beer as a vehicle for social progression. We are asking for your help in finding our way, and have created our Wayfinder role to facilitate this.
Our Wayfinder candidates should have an already-established project, which they believe will benefit from our support or can help us to undertake change work, either within our own business, within our industry or within the wider community. They will join us at our highest level and will be served by our owner-director, our senior management team, and our staff (alongside their continued work in beer production). Our collective privileges will become our Wayfinder’s platform.
Over a period of a three month term (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December), and with a budget of up to £10,000 per term, each Wayfinder will enter into our company to produce and direct lasting change work. This work could take a great many forms, and be commercially centred, community centred, or centred around new values, new ideas, or new concepts we have yet to conceive. The possibilities are truly endless.
If you would like to propose a new direction for us to head in, or if you have a vision for how our platform can be used for greater good, please pitch to us via wayfinder@cloudwaterbrew.co. This role is open to everyone within the UK (we hope to be open to working with Wayfinders outside the UK in the not too distant future, but in order not to overstretch ourselves it is important to share a timezone and be able to visit in person throughout the term).
Our selection process will be facilitated by those of us most inspired by and committed to change work, and will actively seek to platform people, ideas, directions, and interactions that are underrepresented in craft beer.
We trust ourselves to embark on new journeys, to head in new directions, and to do so with courage and determination. We’ll trust you to direct us where we need to go.
We look forward to receiving your pitch. Please click here for our work-in-progress pitching guide.
